Just like other Amazon Web Service (AWS) offerings, CloudFront is self-service with no up-front commitments, no long-term contracts, and works on a pay-as-you-go pricing scheme. With it you can distribute content using a worldwide network of edge locations that provide low latency and high data transfer speeds. His particular install dealt with a CS24, but the ignoreHeadless option applies to the Sun hardware as well, as mentioned in the release notes. The above method is outlined pretty well at Rob Willis' website (with images), however, as noted the "esxcfg-advcfg" command is deprecated. I had to reference the vSphere documentation to clean it up. The source for the esxcli command is a little off, meaning the command as taken from that forum post doesn't work. The following command can be executed to make the change persist : esxcli system settings kernel set -s=ignoreHeadless -v=TRUE However, esxcfg-advcfg has been deprecated in the ESXi Shell, so this did not work. I found some info on different forum posts and at Rob Willis' web site that mentioned I had to enable the ESXi Shell and execute esxcfg-advcfg to get the change to persist. The second issue I had was making the ignoreHeadless setting persist across reboots. I installed to a USB flash device without issue. If all else is working, the install should complete. Prior to the install starting, you can edit the boot options by hitting Shift+O. In the release notes for 5.5, this is addressed in the section "Installing or booting ESXi version 5.5.0 fails on servers from Oracle America (Sun) vendors." The first hiccup I hit was the installer hanging at "Relocating modules and starting the kernel." I'll give links at the bottom to sources I used to get this working The x4140 is only 1U, so it takes up very little space, and has 8 hot-swap 2.5" SAS bays up front. I made the choice because I like Sun hardware, and I wanted something that supported more than 32GB of memory with minimal power usage. Information for the x4140 and ESXi is sparse on the internet, and it doesn't seem like many people choose this route. I hit a few hiccups getting ESXi 5.5u2 installed on a Sun Fire x4140, but eventually got it working, so I wanted to share what I did.
